Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 9 - Chapter 1 - Verse 1 Sanskrit: श्रीशुक उवाचएवं भगवतादिष्टो दुर्वासश्चक्रतापित: ।अम्बरीषमुपावृत्य तत्पादौ दु:खितोऽग्रहीत् ॥ १ ॥ ITRANS: śrī-śuka uvācaevaṁ bhagavatādiṣṭodurvāsāś cakra-tāpitaḥambarīṣam upāvṛtyatat-pādau duḥkhito ’grahīt Translation: Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: When thus advised by Lord Viṣṇu, Durvāsā Muni, who was very much harassed by the Sudarśana cakra, immediately approached Mahārāja Ambarīṣa. Being very much aggrieved, the muni fell down and clasped the King’s lotus feet. Purport:

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 9 - Chapter 1 - Verse 2 Sanskrit: तस्य सोद्यममावीक्ष्य पादस्पर्शविलज्जित: ।अस्तावीत् तद्धरेरस्त्रं कृपया पीडितो भृशम् ॥ २ ॥ ITRANS: tasya sodyamam āvīkṣyapāda-sparśa-vilajjitaḥastāvīt tad dharer astraṁkṛpayā pīḍito bhṛśam Translation: When Durvāsā touched his lotus feet, Mahārāja Ambarīṣa was very much ashamed, and when he saw Durvāsā attempting to offer prayers, because of mercy he was aggrieved even more. Thus he immediately began offering prayers to the great weapon of the Supreme Personality of Godhead....

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 9 - Chapter 1 - Verse 3 Sanskrit: अम्बरीष उवाचत्वमग्निर्भगवान् सूर्यस्त्वं सोमो ज्योतिषां पति: ।त्वमापस्त्वं क्षितिर्व्योम वायुर्मात्रेन्द्रियाणि च ॥ ३ ॥ ITRANS: ambarīṣa uvācatvam agnir bhagavān sūryastvaṁ somo jyotiṣāṁ patiḥtvam āpas tvaṁ kṣitir vyomavāyur mātrendriyāṇi ca Translation: Mahārāja Ambarīṣa said: O Sudarśana cakra, you are fire, you are the most powerful sun, and you are the moon, the master of all luminaries. You are water, earth and sky, you are the air, you are the five sense objects [sound, touch, form, taste and smell], and you are the senses also....

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 9 - Chapter 1 - Verse 4 Sanskrit: सुदर्शन नमस्तुभ्यं सहस्राराच्युतप्रिय ।सर्वास्त्रघातिन् विप्राय स्वस्ति भूया इडस्पते ॥ ४ ॥ ITRANS: sudarśana namas tubhyaṁsahasrārācyuta-priyasarvāstra-ghātin viprāyasvasti bhūyā iḍaspate Translation: O most favorite of Acyuta, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, you have thousands of spokes. O master of the material world, destroyer of all weapons, original vision of the Personality of Godhead, I offer my respectful obeisances unto you. Kindly give shelter and be auspicious to this brāhmaṇa....

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 9 - Chapter 1 - Verse 5 Sanskrit: त्वं धर्मस्त्वमृतं सत्यं त्वं यज्ञोऽखिलयज्ञभुक् ।त्वं लोकपाल: सर्वात्मा त्वं तेज: पौरुषं परम् ॥ ५ ॥ ITRANS: tvaṁ dharmas tvam ṛtaṁ satyaṁtvaṁ yajño ’khila-yajña-bhuktvaṁ loka-pālaḥ sarvātmātvaṁ tejaḥ pauruṣaṁ param Translation: O Sudarśana wheel, you are religion, you are truth, you are encouraging statements, you are sacrifice, and you are the enjoyer of the fruits of sacrifice. You are the maintainer of the entire universe, and you are the supreme transcendental prowess in the hands of the Supreme Personality of Godhead....

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 9 - Chapter 1 - Verse 6 Sanskrit: नम: सुनाभाखिलधर्मसेतवेह्यधर्मशीलासुरधूमकेतवे ।त्रैलोक्यगोपाय विशुद्धवर्चसेमनोजवायाद्भ‍ुतकर्मणे गृणे ॥ ६ ॥ ITRANS: namaḥ sunābhākhila-dharma-setavehy adharma-śīlāsura-dhūma-ketavetrailokya-gopāya viśuddha-varcasemano-javāyādbhuta-karmaṇe gṛṇe Translation: O Sudarśana, you have a very auspicious hub, and therefore you are the upholder of all religion. You are just like an inauspicious comet for the irreligious demons. Indeed, you are the maintainer of the three worlds, you are full of transcendental effulgence, you are as quick as the mind, and you are able to work wonders....

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 9 - Chapter 1 - Verse 7 Sanskrit: त्वत्तेजसा धर्ममयेन संहृतंतम: प्रकाशश्च द‍ृशो महात्मनाम् ।दुरत्ययस्ते महिमा गिरां पतेत्वद्रूपमेतत् सदसत् परावरम् ॥ ७ ॥ ITRANS: tvat-tejasā dharma-mayena saṁhṛtaṁtamaḥ prakāśaś ca dṛśo mahātmanāmduratyayas te mahimā girāṁ patetvad-rūpam etat sad-asat parāvaram Translation: O master of speech, by your effulgence, full of religious principles, the darkness of the world is dissipated, and the knowledge of learned persons or great souls is manifested. Indeed, no one can surpass your effulgence, for all things, manifested and unmanifested, gross and subtle, superior and inferior, are but various forms of you that are manifested by your effulgence....

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 9 - Chapter 1 - Verse 8 Sanskrit: यदा विसृष्टस्त्वमनञ्जनेन वैबलं प्रविष्टोऽजित दैत्यदानवम् ।बाहूदरोर्वङ्‌घ्रिशिरोधराणिवृश्चन्नजस्रं प्रधने विराजसे ॥ ८ ॥ ITRANS: yadā visṛṣṭas tvam anañjanena vaibalaṁ praviṣṭo ’jita daitya-dānavambāhūdarorv-aṅghri-śirodharāṇivṛścann ajasraṁ pradhane virājase Translation: O indefatigable one, when you are sent by the Supreme Personality of Godhead to enter among the soldiers of the Daityas and the Dānavas, you stay on the battlefield and unendingly separate their arms, bellies, thighs, legs and heads....

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 9 - Chapter 1 - Verse 9 Sanskrit: स त्वं जगत् त्राण खलप्रहाणयेनिरूपित: सर्वसहो गदाभृता ।विप्रस्य चास्मत्कुलदैवहेतवेविधेहि भद्रं तदनुग्रहो हि न: ॥ ९ ॥ ITRANS: sa tvaṁ jagat-trāṇa khala-prahāṇayenirūpitaḥ sarva-saho gadā-bhṛtāviprasya cāsmat-kula-daiva-hetavevidhehi bhadraṁ tad anugraho hi naḥ Translation: O protector of the universe, you are engaged by the Supreme Personality of Godhead as His all-powerful weapon in killing the envious enemies. For the benefit of our entire dynasty, kindly favor this poor brāhmaṇa....

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 9 - Chapter 1 - Verse 10 Sanskrit: यद्यस्ति दत्तमिष्टं वा स्वधर्मो वा स्वनुष्ठित: ।कुलं नो विप्रदैवं चेद् द्विजो भवतु विज्वर: ॥ १० ॥ ITRANS: yady asti dattam iṣṭaṁ vāsva-dharmo vā svanuṣṭhitaḥkulaṁ no vipra-daivaṁ ceddvijo bhavatu vijvaraḥ Translation: If our family has given charity to the proper persons, if we have performed ritualistic ceremonies and sacrifices, if we have properly carried out our occupational duties, and if we have been guided by learned brāhmaṇas, I wish, in exchange, that this brāhmaṇa be freed from the burning caused by the Sudarśana cakra....

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 9 - Chapter 1 - Verse 11 Sanskrit: यदि नो भगवान् प्रीत एक: सर्वगुणाश्रय: ।सर्वभूतात्मभावेन द्विजो भवतु विज्वर: ॥ ११ ॥ ITRANS: yadi no bhagavān prītaekaḥ sarva-guṇāśrayaḥsarva-bhūtātma-bhāvenadvijo bhavatu vijvaraḥ Translation: If the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is one without a second, who is the reservoir of all transcendental qualities, and who is the life and soul of all living entities, is pleased with us, we wish that this brāhmaṇa, Durvāsā Muni, be freed from the pain of being burned....

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 9 - Chapter 1 - Verse 12 Sanskrit: श्रीशुक उवाचइति संस्तुवतो राज्ञो विष्णुचक्रं सुदर्शनम् ।अशाम्यत् सर्वतो विप्रं प्रदहद् राजयाञ्चया ॥ १२ ॥ ITRANS: śrī-śuka uvācaiti saṁstuvato rājñoviṣṇu-cakraṁ sudarśanamaśāmyat sarvato vipraṁpradahad rāja-yācñayā Translation: Śukadeva Gosvāmī continued: When the King offered prayers to the Sudarśana cakra and Lord Viṣṇu, because of his prayers the Sudarśana cakra became peaceful and stopped burning the brāhmaṇa known as Durvāsā Muni. Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 9 - Chapter 1 - Verse 13 Sanskrit: स मुक्तोऽस्त्राग्नितापेन दुर्वास: स्वस्तिमांस्तत: ।प्रशशंस तमुर्वीशं युञ्जान: परमाशिष: ॥ १३ ॥ ITRANS: sa mukto ’strāgni-tāpenadurvāsāḥ svastimāṁs tataḥpraśaśaṁsa tam urvīśaṁyuñjānaḥ paramāśiṣaḥ Translation: Durvāsā Muni, the greatly powerful mystic, was indeed satisfied when freed from the fire of the Sudarśana cakra. Thus he praised the qualities of Mahārāja Ambarīṣa and offered him the highest benedictions. Purport:

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 9 - Chapter 1 - Verse 14 Sanskrit: दुर्वासा उवाचअहो अनन्तदासानां महत्त्वं द‍ृष्टमद्य मे ।कृतागसोऽपि यद् राजन् मङ्गलानि समीहसे ॥ १४ ॥ ITRANS: durvāsā uvācaaho ananta-dāsānāṁmahattvaṁ dṛṣṭam adya mekṛtāgaso ’pi yad rājanmaṅgalāni samīhase Translation: Durvāsā Muni said: My dear King, today I have experienced the greatness of devotees of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, for although I have committed an offense, you have prayed for my good fortune....

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 9 - Chapter 1 - Verse 15 Sanskrit: दुष्कर: को नु साधूनां दुस्त्यजो वा महात्मनाम् ।यै: संगृहीतो भगवान् सात्वतामृषभो हरि: ॥ १५ ॥ ITRANS: duṣkaraḥ ko nu sādhūnāṁdustyajo vā mahātmanāmyaiḥ saṅgṛhīto bhagavānsātvatām ṛṣabho hariḥ Translation: For those who have achieved the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the master of the pure devotees, what is impossible to do, and what is impossible to give up? Purport:
