Therefore, let me place my seed in your womb so that you may bear a son. I shall arrange to keep your virginity intact, since you are still an unmarried girl....

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 9 - Chapter 1 - Verse 56 Sanskrit: यदा यदा हि धर्मस्य क्षयो वृद्धिश्च पाप्मन: । तदा तु भगवानीश आत्मानं सृजते हरि: ॥ ५६ ॥ ITRANS: yadā yadā hi dharmasyakṣayo vṛddhiś ca pāpmanaḥtadā tu bhagavān īśaātmānaṁ sṛjate hariḥ Translation: Whenever the principles of religion deteriorate and the principles of irreligion increase, the supreme controller, the Personality of Godhead Śrī Hari, appears by His own will. Purport: The principles by which an incarnation of the Supreme Personality of Godhead descends upon earth are explained in this verse....

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 9 - Chapter 1 - Verse 57 Sanskrit: न ह्यस्य जन्मनो हेतु: कर्मणो वा महीपते । आत्ममायां विनेशस्य परस्य द्रष्टुरात्मन: ॥ ५७ ॥ ITRANS: na hy asya janmano hetuḥkarmaṇo vā mahīpateātma-māyāṁ vineśasyaparasya draṣṭur ātmanaḥ Translation: O King, Mahārāja Parīkṣit, but for the Lord’s personal desire, there is no cause for His appearance, disappearance or activities. As the Supersoul, He knows everything. Consequently there is no cause that affects Him, not even the results of fruitive activities....

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 9 - Chapter 1 - Verse 58 Sanskrit: यन्मायाचेष्टितं पुंस: स्थित्युत्पत्त्यप्ययाय हि । अनुग्रहस्तन्निवृत्तेरात्मलाभाय चेष्यते ॥ ५८ ॥ ITRANS: yan māyā-ceṣṭitaṁ puṁsaḥsthity-utpatty-apyayāya hianugrahas tan-nivṛtterātma-lābhāya ceṣyate Translation: The Supreme Personality of Godhead acts through His material energy in the creation, maintenance and annihilation of this cosmic manifestation just to deliver the living entity by His compassion and stop the living entity’s birth, death and duration of materialistic life. Thus He enables the living being to return home, back to Godhead....

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 9 - Chapter 1 - Verse 59 Sanskrit: अक्षौहिणीनां पतिभिरसुरैर्नृपलाञ्छनै: । भुव आक्रम्यमाणाया अभाराय कृतोद्यम: ॥ ५९ ॥ ITRANS: akṣauhiṇīnāṁ patibhirasurair nṛpa-lāñchanaiḥbhuva ākramyamāṇāyāabhārāya kṛtodyamaḥ Translation: Although the demons who take possession of the government are dressed like men of government, they do not know the duty of the government. Consequently, by the arrangement of God, such demons, who possess great military strength, fight with one another, and thus the great burden of demons on the surface of the earth is reduced....

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 9 - Chapter 1 - Verse 61 Sanskrit: कलौ जनिष्यमाणानां दु:खशोकतमोनुदम् । अनुग्रहाय भक्तानां सुपुण्यं व्यतनोद् यश: ॥ ६१ ॥ ITRANS: kalau janiṣyamāṇānāṁduḥkha-śoka-tamo-nudamanugrahāya bhaktānāṁsupuṇyaṁ vyatanod yaśaḥ Translation: To show causeless mercy to the devotees who would take birth in the future in this Age of Kali, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Kṛṣṇa, acted in such a way that simply by remembering Him one will be freed from all the lamentation and unhappiness of material existence....

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 9 - Chapter 1 - Verse 62 Sanskrit: यस्मिन् सत्कर्णपीयुषे यशस्तीर्थवरे सकृत् । श्रोत्राञ्जलिरुपस्पृश्य धुनुते कर्मवासनाम् ॥ ६२ ॥ ITRANS: yasmin sat-karṇa-pīyuṣeyaśas-tīrtha-vare sakṛtśrotrāñjalir upaspṛśyadhunute karma-vāsanām Translation: Simply by receiving the glories of the Lord through purified transcendental ears, the devotees of the Lord are immediately freed from strong material desires and engagement in fruitive activities. Purport: When the devotees aurally receive the activities of the Supreme Personality of Godhead as enacted in Bhagavad-gītā and Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, they immediately achieve a transcendental vision in which they are no longer interested in materialistic activities....

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 9 - Chapter 1 - Verse 63-64 Sanskrit: भोजवृष्ण्यन्धकमधुशूरसेनदशार्हकै: । श्लाघनीयेहित: शश्वत् कुरुसृञ्जयपाण्डुभि: ॥ ६३ ॥ स्‍निग्धस्मितेक्षितोदारैर्वाक्यैर्विक्रमलीलया । नृलोकं रमयामास मूर्त्या सर्वाङ्गरम्यया ॥ ६४ ॥ ITRANS: bhoja-vṛṣṇy-andhaka-madhu-śūrasena-daśārhakaiḥślāghanīyehitaḥ śaśvatkuru-sṛñjaya-pāṇḍubhiḥ Translation: Assisted by the descendants of Bhoja, Vṛṣṇi, Andhaka, Madhu, Śūrasena, Daśārha, Kuru, Sṛñjaya and Pāṇḍu, Lord Kṛṣṇa performed various activities. By His pleasing smiles, His affectionate behavior, His instructions and His uncommon pastimes like raising Govardhana Hill, the Lord, appearing in His transcendental body, pleased all of human society....

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 9 - Chapter 1 - Verse 65 Sanskrit: यस्याननं मकरकुण्डलचारुकर्ण-भ्राजत्कपोलसुभगं सविलासहासम् । नित्योत्सवं न ततृपुर्दृशिभि: पिबन्त्योनार्यो नराश्च मुदिता: कुपिता निमेश्च ॥ ६५ ॥ ITRANS: yasyānanaṁ makara-kuṇḍala-cāru-karṇa-bhrājat-kapola-subhagaṁ savilāsa-hāsamnityotsavaṁ na tatṛpur dṛśibhiḥ pibantyonāryo narāś ca muditāḥ kupitā nimeś ca Translation: Kṛṣṇa’s face is decorated with ornaments, such as earrings resembling sharks. His ears are beautiful, His cheeks brilliant, and His smiling attractive to everyone. Whoever sees Lord Kṛṣṇa sees a festival....

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 9 - Chapter 1 - Verse 66 Sanskrit: जातो गत: पितृगृहाद् व्रजमेधितार्थोहत्वा रिपून् सुतशतानि कृतोरुदार: । उत्पाद्य तेषु पुरुष: क्रतुभि: समीजेआत्मानमात्मनिगमं प्रथयञ्जनेषु ॥ ६६ ॥ ITRANS: jāto gataḥ pitṛ-gṛhād vrajam edhitārthohatvā ripūn suta-śatāni kṛtorudāraḥutpādya teṣu puruṣaḥ kratubhiḥ samījeātmānam ātma-nigamaṁ prathayañ janeṣu Translation: The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Śrī Kṛṣṇa, known as līlā-puruṣottama, appeared as the son of Vasudeva but immediately left His father’s home and went to Vṛndāvana to expand His loving relationship with His confidential devotees....

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 9 - Chapter 1 - Verse 67 Sanskrit: पृथ्व्या: स वै गुरुभरं क्षपयन् कुरूणा-मन्त:समुत्थकलिना युधि भूपचम्व: । द‍ृष्टय‍ा विधूय विजये जयमुद्विघोष्यप्रोच्योद्धवाय च परं समगात् स्वधाम ॥ ६७ ॥येऽन्येऽरविन्दाक्ष विमुक्तमानिन-स्त्वय्यस्तभावादविशुद्धबुद्धय: । आरुह्य कृच्छ्रेण परं पदं तत:पतन्त्यधोऽनाद‍ृतयुष्मदङ्‌घ्रय: ॥ ITRANS: pṛthvyāḥ sa vai guru-bharaṁ kṣapayan kurūṇāmantaḥ-samuttha-kalinā yudhi bhūpa-camvaḥdṛṣṭyā vidhūya vijaye jayam udvighoṣyaprocyoddhavāya ca paraṁ samagāt sva-dhāma Translation: Thereafter, Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa created a misunderstanding between family members just to diminish the burden of the world....

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 9 - Chapter 1 - Verse 53-55 Sanskrit: प्रवरश्रुतमुख्यांश्च साक्षाद् धर्मो वसूनिव । वसुदेवस्तु देवक्यामष्ट पुत्रानजीजनत् ॥ ५३ ॥ कीर्तिमन्तं सुषेणं च भद्रसेनमुदारधी: । ऋजुं सम्मर्दनं भद्रं सङ्कर्षणमहीश्वरम् ॥ ५४ ॥ अष्टमस्तु तयोरासीत् स्वयमेव हरि: किल । सुभद्रा च महाभागा तव राजन् पितामही ॥ ५५ ॥ ITRANS: pravara-śruta-mukhyāṁś casākṣād dharmo vasūn ivavasudevas tu devakyāmaṣṭa putrān ajījanat Translation: The eight sons born of Sahadevā such as Pravara and Śruta, were exact incarnations of the eight Vasus in the heavenly planets....
