This much alone is the ultimate goal of human life, as explained by all the revealed scriptures....

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 7 - Chapter 1 - Verse 19-20 Sanskrit: आत्मा नित्योऽव्यय: शुद्ध एक: क्षेत्रज्ञ आश्रय: ।अविक्रिय: स्वद‍ृग् हेतुर्व्यापकोऽसङ्‌‌ग्यनावृत: ॥ १९ ॥एतैर्द्वादशभिर्विद्वानात्मनो लक्षणै: परै: ।अहं ममेत्यसद्भ‍ावं देहादौ मोहजं त्यजेत् ॥ २० ॥ ITRANS: ātmā nityo ’vyayaḥ śuddhaekaḥ kṣetra-jña āśrayaḥavikriyaḥ sva-dṛg heturvyāpako ’saṅgy anāvṛtaḥ Translation: “Ātmā” refers to the Supreme Lord or the living entities. Both of them are spiritual, free from birth and death, free from deterioration and free from material contamination....

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 7 - Chapter 1 - Verse 30-31 Sanskrit: गुरुशुश्रूषया भक्त्या सर्वलब्धार्पणेन च ।सङ्गेन साधुभक्तानामीश्वराराधनेन च ॥ ३० ॥श्रद्धया तत्कथायां च कीर्तनैर्गुणकर्मणाम् ।तत्पादाम्बुरुहध्यानात तल्लिङ्गेक्षार्हणादिभि: ॥ ३१ ॥ ITRANS: guru-śuśrūṣayā bhaktyāsarva-labdhārpaṇena casaṅgena sādhu-bhaktānāmīśvarārādhanena ca Translation: One must accept the bona fide spiritual master and render service unto him with great devotion and faith. Whatever one has in one’s possession should be offered to the spiritual master, and in the association of saintly persons and devotees one should worship the Lord, hear the glories of the Lord with faith, glorify the transcendental qualities and activities of the Lord, always meditate on the Lord’s lotus feet, and worship the Deity of the Lord strictly according to the injunctions of the śāstra and guru....

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 7 - Chapter 1 - Verse 51-52 Sanskrit: नालं द्विजत्वं देवत्वमृषित्वं वासुरात्मजा: ।प्रीणनाय मुकुन्दस्य न वृत्तं न बहुज्ञता ॥ ५१ ॥न दानं न तपो नेज्या न शौचं न व्रतानि च ।प्रीयतेऽमलया भक्त्या हरिरन्यद् विडम्बनम् ॥ ५२ ॥ ITRANS: nālaṁ dvijatvaṁ devatvamṛṣitvaṁ vāsurātmajāḥprīṇanāya mukundasyana vṛttaṁ na bahu-jñatā Translation: My dear friends, O sons of the demons, you cannot please the Supreme Personality of Godhead by becoming perfect brāhmaṇas, demigods or great saints or by becoming perfectly good in etiquette or vast learning....
