Mahārāja Parīkṣit’s garlanding the sage with a dead snake was not at all a very serious offense, but Śṛṅgi’s cursing the King was a serious offense....

Purport: The difference between the Pāṇḍavas and Vidura is that the Pāṇḍavas are eternal associates of the Lord, the Personality of Godhead, whereas Vidura is one of the administrative demigods in charge of the Pitṛloka planet and is known as Yamarāja....

Though I live millions of years, I will not be relieved from the hell that awaits me for all these sins. Purport: Whenever there is a war, there is certainly a massacre of many innocent living beings, such as boys, brāhmaṇas and women, whose killing is considered to be the greatest of sins....

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 12 - Chapter 1 - Verse 50 Sanskrit: ऋगथर्वयजु:साम्नां राशीरुद्‍धृत्य वर्गश: ।चतस्र: संहिताश्चक्रे मन्त्रैर्मणिगणा इव ॥ ५० ॥ ITRANS: ṛg-atharva-yajuḥ-sāmnāṁrāśīr uddhṛtya vargaśaḥcatasraḥ saṁhitāś cakremantrair maṇi-gaṇā iva Translation: Śrīla Vyāsadeva separated the mantras of the Ṛg, Atharva, Yajur and Sāma Vedas into four divisions, just as one sorts out a mixed collection of jewels into piles. Thus he composed four distinct Vedic literatures. Purport: When Lord Brahmā first spoke the four Vedas with his four mouths, the mantras were mixed together like an unsorted collection of various types of jewels....

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 11 - Chapter 1 - Verse 50 Sanskrit: वेदाध्यायस्वधास्वाहाबल्यन्नाद्यैर्यथोदयम् ।देवर्षिपितृभूतानि मद्रूपाण्यन्वहं यजेत् ॥ ५० ॥ ITRANS: vedādhyāya-svadhā-svāhā-baly-annādyair yathodayamdevarṣi-pitṛ-bhūtānimad-rūpāṇy anv-ahaṁ yajet Translation: One in the gṛhastha order of life should daily worship the sages by Vedic study, the forefathers by offering the mantra svadhā, the demigods by chanting svāhā, all living entities by offering shares of one’s meals, and human beings by offering grains and water. Thus considering the demigods, sages, forefathers, living entities and human beings to be manifestations of My potency, one should daily perform these five sacrifices....

In the same way, the witness of the birth and death of the material body remains separate from it....

This happiness and distress pertain not to the soul but to the interactions of material bodies....
