Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 8 - Chapter 1 - Verse 18 Sanskrit: निर्मथ्यमानादुदधेरभूद्विषंमहोल्बणं हालहलाह्वमग्रत: ।सम्भ्रान्तमीनोन्मकराहिकच्छपात्तिमिद्विपग्राहतिमिङ्गिलाकुलात् ॥ १८ ॥ ITRANS: nirmathyamānād udadher abhūd viṣaṁmaholbaṇaṁ hālahalāhvam agrataḥsambhrānta-mīnonmakarāhi-kacchapāttimi-dvipa-grāha-timiṅgilākulāt Translation: The fish, sharks, tortoises and snakes were most agitated and perturbed. The entire ocean became turbulent, and even the large aquatic animals like whales, water elephants, crocodiles and timiṅgila fish [large whales that can swallow small whales] came to the surface. While the ocean was being churned in this way, it first produced a fiercely dangerous poison called hālahala....

Purport: King Indra, the greatest of the demigods, was astonished to hear the instructions of Vṛtrāsura, who was supposed to be a demon....

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 6 - Chapter 1 - Verse 18 Sanskrit: येनावृता इमे लोकास्तपसा त्वाष्ट्रमूर्तिना ।स वै वृत्र इति प्रोक्त: पाप: परमदारुण: ॥ १८ ॥ ITRANS: yenāvṛtā ime lokāstapasā tvāṣṭra-mūrtināsa vai vṛtra iti proktaḥpāpaḥ parama-dāruṇaḥ Translation: That very fearful demon, who was actually the son of Tvaṣṭā, covered all the planetary systems by dint of austerity. Therefore he was named Vṛtra, or one who covers everything. Purport: In the Vedas it is said, sa imāḻ lokān āvṛṇot tad vṛtrasya vṛtratvam: because the demon covered all the planetary systems, his name was Vṛtrāsura....

Srimad-Bhagavatam: Canto 6 - Chapter 1 - Verse 18 Sanskrit: धन्वन्तरिर्भगवान् पात्वपथ्याद्द्वन्द्वाद् भयाद‍ृषभो निर्जितात्मा ।यज्ञश्च लोकादवताज्जनान्ताद्बलो गणात् क्रोधवशादहीन्द्र: ॥ १८ ॥ ITRANS: dhanvantarir bhagavān pātv apathyāddvandvād bhayād ṛṣabho nirjitātmāyajñaś ca lokād avatāj janāntādbalo gaṇāt krodha-vaśād ahīndraḥ Translation: May the Supreme Personality of Godhead in His incarnation as Dhanvantari relieve me from undesirable eatables and protect me from physical illness. May Lord Ṛṣabhadeva, who conquered His inner and outer senses, protect me from fear produced by the duality of heat and cold....

That swan is explained in this verse.] The Vedic literatures [śāstras] vividly describe how to understand the Supreme Lord, the source of all material and spiritual energy. Indeed, they elaborately explain these two energies. The swan [haṁsa] is one who discriminates between matter and spirit, who accepts the essence of everything, and who explains the means of bondage and the means of liberation....
